PHILIPPINES: Typhoon Ketsana one year after

This Sunday, 26 September, will be exactly one year since Typhoon Ketsana (local name, Ondoy) hit the Philippines causing widespread flooding and forcing thousands of people from their homes.

Oxfam and the local government of Tanay will hold an event named “Ondoy: Isang Paggunita” at 3:30 p.m., Parola, Brgy. San Isidro, Tanay, Rizal, to remember those who perished during Ondoy and to make a commitment to reduce the risks posed by disasters like Ondoy to poor Filipino communities. A commemorative marker will be unveiled and Cookie Chua and Noel Cabangon will perform. On the same day, Oxfam will release a report that looks at what Ondoy taught us about the way we deal with disasters and how we can be better prepared for them.Original post: http://bit.ly/dq8Xgl
