Emergency in Honduras- Tropical Depression
In the middle October, a week of torrential generated by the tropical depression E-12 has triggered hundreds of landslides and massive flooding across the region, affected more than 700,000 people in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Oxfam and partners are rushing clean water and relief supplies to those in need.
In Honduras the tropical depression E-12 has affected directly more than 60,000 people, especially in the area of Choluteca and Valle, one of the poorest of the country. The government has declared state of emergency for southern Honduras on October 16.
The flooding in recent weeks has damaged more than 10,000 blocks of crops in different regions of Honduras. The water systems in the south are also damaged, leak pollutants and collapsed.
Oxfam has decided to implement a humanitarian response in the municipality of Nacaome, Valle and is considering the option of also responding in the municipality of Marcovia, Choluteca.
In the next days, Oxfam will donate and install a submersible pump to the municipality of Nacaome that will permit the reactivation of drinking water system for 10,000 people.
