Duncan, I'd also be really keen to hear about any Oxfam Kenya programmes - I'd like to recommend a Kenyan woman I know who is similarly inspirational and being put up as an MP by her own people in the elections...

Thank you, it is great to hear such positive stories - women have such a vital role to play and each individual story is a step in the right direction

Hi Duncan,

Interesting piece - three remarkable women indeed!

The question that struck me at the end of the piece was whether Oxfam had any programs in Kenya that directly aim to empower the next generation of female leaders? These women have very interesting personal stories but where are the next female leaders coming from?

For example, the Kenyan NGO Akili Dada (www.akilidada.org) has a great model to tackle this question. It acts as a leadership incubator for high-achieving young women from underprivileged backgrounds, empowering them through scholarships, mentoring, leadership development and community service.

I should declare an interest - my organization One World Children's Fund supports Akili Dada and I find their work to be hugely inspiring.

I would be interested to know if Oxfam is doing anything similar in Kenya.

Best wishes,
Katie
