“No woman should die while giving life” was the motto when Oxfam partners launched the East Africa Caravan For Maternal Health this week. The caravan set off on a tour through Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and ending at the African Union Summit in Uganda later this month. The caravan aims to pressure AU leaders to keep their promises on improving maternal healthcare. An estimated 1,500 pregnant women die every day across Africa – most of which could be easily prevented with the right investment and policies. The caravan will be hosting a range of events as it passes through some of the neglected rural areas where giving birth can be most dangerous. Read the daily diary from the tour here.
