OxGlam runs in Tanzania
April 15th, 2011 by admin Posted in Agriculture, Education, Tanzania, VideoOxfam is the official charity of this Sunday’s 2011 Virgin London Marathon. An “Oxglam” team, made up of stars from the world of fashion and acting, will be running the marathon to raise funds. A few weeks ago the team – including model Agyness Deyn, fashion designer Henry Holland, actress Emma Pierson and model Tuuli Shipster – visited Tanzania to meet some of the communities the funds will help. One project supports farmers to produce and market sisal – a stiff local fibre – by providing processing plants, machinery and training. The income of 8,000 people will increase by 20 percent as a result. You can find out more about the sisal project here. The team also visited rural schools, which struggle with large classes, poorly trained teachers and a lack of basic equipment.
